KDE Gear 26.08, a suite of applications from the KDE project, has been released.

After four months of development, the August update to KDE Gear 26.08, a consolidated update for KDE applications developed by the KDE project, has been released. The set includes releases of over 250 programs, libraries, and plugins. Information about the availability of live builds with new application releases can be found on this page. New versions of individual applications can be downloaded from Flathub and SnapCraft.

The most notable changes:

  • The Dolphin file manager has improved integration with KDE Connect for connecting your smartphone to your desktop. When navigating files on your smartphone, the panel now displays an "Open KDE Connect" button, allowing you to open the KDE Connect application for interaction with your mobile device.

When viewing a directory with a large number of files, it is now possible to open an advanced content filtering panel using the "Ctrl + i" combination to display files that match a text string, mask, or regular expression.

Added support for grouping files and directories regardless of the selected sorting mode (for example, you can sort files alphabetically and then group them by file type).

Buttons for deleting a tab to the right or left of the current one have been added to the tab context menu.

  • The Okular document viewer has improved document signing capabilities; dialogs with application and backend settings have been consolidated; support for selecting an entire line with three clicks has been added; when working with annotations, the selected text is automatically included when adding a comment; and the ability to transfer notes and comments between documents via the clipboard has been implemented.
  • The Konsole terminal emulator now allows you to drag and drop files into external applications by clicking on the filename in the terminal while holding down the Alt key. For example, you can use this method to transfer an image path to an image editor or a text file path to a text editor. URLs, email addresses, and color codes can be moved in a similar way (for example, you can drag and drop a URL from the terminal into a browser to open the page).
  • In the Kdenlive video editor, the ability to freely move the rotation axes in the frame is implemented in the transformation effects (previously, the rotation axis was always fixed strictly in the center).

The Gradient Map effect now allows you to add an arbitrary number of points to control the color transition. The Curves effect now allows you to independently adjust each color channel.

The timeline now allows you to select a group of clips for copying into a separate nested sequence. Automatically create audio tracks required for a clip. Tracks can now be reordered using drag-and-drop. Custom colors can now be assigned to different types of timeline objects.

The Title Editor now supports copying and pasting objects via the clipboard. Rounded corners of rectangular frames can now be added. Moving objects can now be snapped to other elements, the edges, or the center of the screen using visual guides.

  • A new interface for the Minuet music learning program has been introduced, adapting it to desktop and mobile screens.
