KDE Plasma 6.6 receives 3 years of support.

Organization KDE eV, jointly with the companies Kubuntu Focus and Techpaladin Software have announced an initiative to provide LTS support for the KDE Plasma 6.6 branch, which will include patches for at least three years.

Last year, the KDE project stopped maintaining LTS branches and delegated their maintenance to distribution developers wishing to ship older versions of KDE Plasma. This decision was made due to the significant effort required to resolve issues related to the use of specific software stacks in distributions or the desynchronization of package status with the current KDE codebase. In fact, only the K distributionubuntu used the LTS branch, and Debian and openSUSE ignored it. Furthermore, LTS support was incomplete, consisting only of backporting individual fixes to KDE Plasma without continuous integration testing, and did not cover KDE Frameworks libraries or KDE Gear applications.

To maintain the old KDE stack, Kubuntu Focus, which produces laptops that come with Kubuntu, has allocated $100, which will be spent on continuing to fix bugs in the KDE Plasma 6.6, KDE Frameworks 6.24, and KDE Gear 25.12 branches supplied in the K distribution.ubuntu 26.04. Maintenance work will be performed by Techpaladin Software, whose director is Nate Graham, a developer who works on quality assurance for the KDE project.

In addition, funds have been allocated separately for adding three additional nodes with a continuous integration system to the KDE infrastructure, on which testing of KDE operation in K will be carried out.ubuntu 26.04.
