The developers of Kubuntu Linux have announced their work on transitioning the distribution to use the Calamares installer, which is independent of specific Linux distributions and utilizes the Qt library for creating the user interface. The use of Calamares will enable a unified graphical stack in environments based on KDE. Among the official editions of Ubuntu, Lubuntu and UbuntuDDE have already switched to the Calamares installer. In addition to changing the installer, the project also highlights the preparation for the spring release of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS, which will be the last release based on KDE 5, and the beginning of the development of a test version with KDE 6, which will serve as the foundation for the fall release of Kubuntu 24.10.
