The Let’s Encrypt nonprofit certificate authority, community-driven and offering free certificates to anyone interested, is celebrating its tenth anniversary. The service generates around three million new certificates daily. The number of active certificates stands at 277 million (each certificate is valid for three months). These certificates cover approximately 111 million registered domains and 350 million full domain names (FQDN). According to Firefox Telemetry statistics, the global share of page requests over HTTPS is 79% (the peak was in 2020, when the share of HTTPS reached 85%; over the last two years, the percentage of pages loaded via HTTPS has decreased).
