The Document Foundation has announced the synchronization of the Android application LibreOffice Viewer with the latest codebase of LibreOffice and its placement in the Google Play directory. Due to the lack of support, LibreOffice Viewer was removed from Google Play in 2020 and remained stagnant for a long time. It is expected that the return of LibreOffice Viewer to Google Play will make the package available to a wider audience, not just to enthusiasts using the F-Droid catalog.
LibreOffice Viewer is a document viewer for Open Document formats (odt, ods, odp) and Microsoft Office (docx, xlsx, pptx, doc, xls, and ppt), based on the same engine as the desktop office suite LibreOffice. The interface is built using Mozilla technologies used in Firefox for Android. There is a document editing mode that can be enabled in the settings, but it's marketed as experimental. It requires Android 5.0 or later versions of the platform. The size of the installation APK file is 77 MB.
