Currently, the creation of the Linux Mint distribution version 19.3 (the code name has not been announced yet) is underway. The new version will be released by the end of the year and will feature a number of improvements and updated components.
As stated by the leader of the Linux Mint project, Clement Lefebvre, the new OS release is planned for Christmas. It will enhance support for high-resolution HiDPI displays in the Cinnamon and MATE editions. This will make icons and other elements less blurry.
Taskbar icons will also be updated in the upcoming build to match HiDPI support. Additionally, an improvement to the ‘Language Settings’ panel is promised, allowing users to set the time format for their respective locale and region. However, no specifics have been provided yet.
Under the hood, the new system will still be based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) and will use the Linux kernel 4.15. Overall, the creators of Linux Mint continue to shape the most user-friendly and easy-to-use distribution, allowing novice users to transition to Linux as smoothly as possible.
