The release of MClient 8.0 has taken place — a shell for online and offline dictionaries. There are already a large number of programs that work with electronic dictionaries, but typically, their functionality resembles that of browsers and does not process individual elements of dictionary entries.
What MClient allows you to do and how it differs from most other viewers:
- view articles in table format;
- automatically highlight elements of an article for quick copying to the clipboard — perfect for translation;
- organize individual tags (for example, by themes, word forms, parts of speech, etc.) and sort terms and phrases alphabetically;
- prioritize or block sources and themes;
- quickly view translations from other programs by pressing Ctrl+C+C or Ctrl+Ins+Ins on the selected text;
- quickly switch to the viewer window by pressing Alt+~;
- translate using Multitran — one of the largest online dictionaries in the world.
The program is aimed at professional translators and linguists but can also be useful for students learning the language.
In the new version:
- significantly improved support for local dictionaries (DSL and StarDict);
- support for Fora has been added;
- added the ability to convert DSL, StarDict, and Fora dictionaries to the internal MDic format, which allows for significantly faster searches (launch the program with the key —convert);
- search is now performed globally — both on multitran.com and in local dictionaries;
- a new mode has been added — 'Full';
- two new columns have been added — 'Sources' and 'Dictionaries'. Sources can be prioritized and blocked;
- searching using multitran.com has become optional — block it in ~/.config/mclient/mclient.json if you don't need it.
Place local dictionaries (if available) in the directory ~/.config/mclient/dics for Linux or C:UsersApplication Datamclientdics for Windows.
