Introduced Firefox Lockwise password manager, previously known as Lockbox. Lockwise includes mobile apps for Android and iOS to access saved passwords in the Firefox browser on any device, without needing to install Firefox on them. It features autofill in any apps (enabled in system settings). The source code of the project is distributed under the MPL 2.0 license.
To sync passwords, the built-in capabilities of the Firefox browser and a Firefox Account are used. Lockwise connects to sync like different instances of the browser. Data protection uses AES-256-GCM and keys based on PBKDF2 and HKDF with SHA-256 hashing, and key transmission utilizes the protocol Onepw.
In addition to mobile apps, a browser extension is currently being developed offering an alternative interface for password management. It is still experimental (for instance, it does not work with the master password), but it is planned to become a standard extension in the future.
Currently, the apps are in the beta testing phase, with telemetry sending aggregated information about app usage enabled by default. The stable version release is scheduled is scheduled for next week.
