The race to implement AI-based features in search engines is gaining momentum, and Microsoft has launched a new tool for its Bing search engine. This week, the software giant rolled out a feature that provides a summary generated by AI in response to user queries in Bing. Currently, the beta version of this feature is available to a limited number of users.
Along with the announcement of the new feature, Microsoft published several examples of how it works. The text generated by the neural network in response to a query is supplemented with links to sources on which the summary is based. Additionally, there is a section with related information. For instance, the summary in response to the query âhow long do elephants liveâ is supplemented with videos explaining the factors that influence the lifespan of elephants. After the section with the AI-generated information, regular search results for the user's query are displayed.
Unfortunately, at this time, the AI search function in Bing handles only a âsmall percentage of user queriesâ and is not available to everyone. âWe are gradually rolling out this feature and are not in a hurry; we are collecting feedback, testing, learning, and working on creating a quality product before making it available to a wider audience,â Microsoft stated. Likely, Microsoft does not want to rush the mass rollout of this new feature to avoid the issues faced by Google, which earlier this year added a similar AI tool to its search engine that often produced responses to user queries.
