There has been no official announcement regarding Windows Lite, which is rumored to be a lighter version of the standard OS intended for use on dual-display devices and Chromebooks. Nevertheless, Parker shared how Microsoft is preparing for the emergence of new types of devices.
New devices will require what Microsoft calls a 'modern OS', which includes a set of 'tools' such as continuous updates. In the past, Microsoft has frequently talked about improving the Windows update process, but now the software giant has stated that 'the modern OS update process occurs invisibly to the user in the background.' This announcement indicates significant changes compared to what we currently have in Windows 10.
According to developers at Microsoft, the 'modern OS' will provide a high level of security, and computing will be 'separated from applications,' implying the use of cloud space. Additionally, the corporation wants the OS to operate on fifth-generation (5G) communication networks and support various input methods, including voice, touch, and specialized pens. The message also states that Microsoft intends to emphasize 'the use of cloud technologies that leverage cloud computing power to enhance the user interaction with the OS.' It is clear that Microsoft plans to bring smooth background updates, security improvements, 5G connectivity, cloud applications, and support for artificial intelligence technologies to Windows Lite.
