Microsoft unexpectedly showcased the new Start menu in Windows 10

Microsoft released a test version of Windows 10 for internal use numbered 18947. However, it mistakenly reached Windows Insider program participants, regardless of whether they are on the Fast or Slow Ring channels. In this version, it has turned out, there is a new design for the Start menu, which will discard the signature tiles.

The 'leaked' build was created only in a 32-bit edition. The Start menu contains suggested applications, search, and access to the list of installed programs. There is also a shift towards monochrome icons. It seems they decided to abandon the list. Additionally, according to insiders, the build has not even passed internal testing at Microsoft.

Aside from the visual changes, there are no significant differences. Except, there is now an option to search for animated GIF images within the emoji panel. Otherwise, this is indeed the same Windows 10 Pro, just not the final release. It is assumed that this build could be a 'template' for the future Windows Lite, but that is just speculation.

The company has already stated that they are investigating the causes of the leaks and are working on a solution. It is worth noting that in 2017, the company allowed internal Windows 10 builds for PCs and smartphones to be publicly available. As a result, some devices experienced uncontrolled reboots. At that time, developers released a utility to restore the bootloader, which resolved the issue.
