Microsoft has introduced a new open font, Cascadia Code

Microsoft released Cascadia Code is an open-source monospace font optimized for use in terminal emulators and code editors. The font's original components is distributed are licensed under OFL 1.1 (Open Font License), allowing unlimited modification of the font, including its use for commercial purposes, printing, and on websites in the Web. Available for download introduced as a TrueType (TTF) file. The font is expected to be included in the next update of Windows Terminal.

One notable feature of the font is the support for programmable ligatures, allowing the creation of new glyphs by combining existing characters. Such glyphs are supported in the open editor Visual Studio Code and enhance code readability.
