Microsoft plans to integrate several Google services with its email service Outlook.com. Some time ago, Microsoft began testing the integration of Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Calendar on certain accounts, as reported on Twitter by one participant in the process.
During the setup, the user needs to link their Google and Outlook.com accounts, after which Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Calendar will automatically appear on Microsoft’s service page.
This is very similar to how Outlook works on iOS and Android, where separate inboxes are connected for incoming messages and there is simultaneous integration with the calendar. Currently, only a limited number of users can participate in the integration testing. Those who have this opportunity can only add one Google account, and switching between Outlook and Gmail does not work. The integration with Google Drive implies support for documents and files from the Google service, allowing for quick attachments to messages sent from either Outlook or Gmail.
At this time, it is unknown how many users are participating in the testing of the new features and when Microsoft may begin widespread deployment of the integration. Although many people visit Gmail to check incoming correspondence, the new integration may be useful for those who use Outlook.com and G Suite accounts for work.
