Microsoft will integrate the Linux kernel into new versions of Windows 10.
This will significantly enhance the performance of the Linux subsystem in Windows, the company believes.
At the Build 2019 developer conference, Microsoft introduced its own Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL 2) with a fully-functional built-in Linux kernel based on the stable long-term version 4.19.
It will be updated through Windows Update and will also be available as a separate distribution.
The kernel will be completely open: Microsoft will publish instructions on GitHub necessary for working with it and creating custom kernel versions.
