The author of the VeraCrypt disk partition encryption system warned users about the blocking of his account by Microsoft, which is used to certify the digital signature of VeraCrypt builds for Windows. A situation has arisen where it is impossible to publish a new release of VeraCrypt for Windows. Moreover, the key used to sign the last release of VeraCrypt 1.26.24 expires in June, after which the VeraCrypt driver will be blocked by the secure boot mode.
The blocking was done without prior warning and with no opportunity to appeal. The only reason mentioned was that the organization did not meet the requirements for passing verification, without any clarifications on what specifically does not satisfy Microsoft. The author of VeraCrypt attempted to contact Microsoft in several ways, but all attempts went no further than automated bot responses. 
The author joined the discussion regarding the blocking of VeraCrypt. VPN WireGuard, who shared that his account was also blocked and that he now cannot release updates for Windows either. Similar to the case with VeraCrypt, the developer did not receive any warnings — while preparing to publish an update, WireGuard's author tried to access the interface for creating a signature and found that his account was blocked. The appeal review process takes up to 60 days, and its outcome is unpredictable. In case of a critical vulnerability in WireGuard, the author now has no way to promptly release a fix for Windows. Meanwhile, Microsoft itself uses WireGuard in its Azure Kubernetes Service product.
