As part of the project is an attempt to create a version of Debian GNU/Linux for mobile devices. The builds use the standard package base of Debian, a set of GNOME applications, and a user interface shell. , developed by Purism for the Librem 5 smartphone. Phosh is based on GNOME technologies (GTK, GSettings, DBus) and utilizes a compositing server , running on top of Wayland. Mobian is currently limited to preparing only for smartphones , distributed by the Pine64 community.
Among the applications
are the Eye of Gnome image viewer, the GNOME ToDo note-taking system, the interface for configuring GSM/CDMA/UMTS/EVDO/LTE modems ModemManager, the GNOME Contacts address book, the GNOME Sound Recorder audio recording program, the GNOME Control Center configuration tool, the Evince document viewer, the GEdit text editor, the GNOME Software application installer, the GNOME Usage monitoring tool, and the Geary email client,
the Fractal messenger (based on the Matrix protocol), and the call management interface (utilizing the telephony stack ). There are plans to add an MPD Client, mapping applications, a Spotify client, an audiobook listener, a night mode, and encryption capabilities for data on storage.
Applications are built with patches from the Purism project aimed at improving the interface's performance on small screens. In particular, the Purism project develops the library with a set of widgets and objects for creating user interfaces. The library includes 29 widgets that cover various standard interface elements such as lists, panels, editing blocks, buttons, tabs, search forms, dialog boxes, etc. The proposed widgets allow for the creation of universal interfaces that function seamlessly on both large screens of PCs and laptops as well as on small touch screens of smartphones. The application interface dynamically adapts depending on the screen size and available input devices. A key goal of the project is to enable the use of the same GNOME applications on smartphones and PCs.
