Mozilla new promotional opportunities for addons in the catalog (addons.mozilla.org). A pilot program will expand the manual review and evaluation of add-ons from late September to the end of November.
Since Mozilla lacks the resources to manually review all addons, the Promoted Add-ons program has been launched, allowing for expedited review on a paid basis. During the pilot phase, review and promotion will be offered for free to a select number of the most interesting addons that have applied. . Pricing for the paid service will be announced in the coming months.
Two levels of paid review have been proposed:
- The ability to place a special badge indicating that the add-on has been reviewed by Mozilla staff and fully meets the directory's security and privacy requirements. The badge is displayed both in the AMO directory and in the Firefox addons manager (about:addons).
- Placement of the add-on in the new "Sponsored extensions" section on the homepage of addons.mozilla.org.
