Mozilla has canceled the decision to close down the Test Pilot program and introduced introduced new functionality for testing — Private Network. Private Network allows establishing a network connection through an external proxy service, operated by Cloudflare. All traffic to the proxy server is sent in an encrypted format, enabling the service to ensure protection when operating in untrusted networks, such as when using public Wi-Fi hotspots. Another application of Private Network is to hide the real IP address from websites and advertising networks that tailor content based on the visitor's location.

After activating the new feature in the panel, appears. a button will be available to enable or disable proxy operation, as well as to check the connection status. Testing of the Private Network feature is conducted only for users of the desktop version of Firefox in the US. During the testing period, the service is provided for free, but the final service will likely be paid.The code of the extension implementing the Private Network functionality is is distributed under MPL 2.0 license.
