Oracle has introduced a preview release of Oracle Linux 10, built on the package base of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 and fully binary compatible with it. An unrestricted installation ISO image is available for download, prepared for x86_64 and ARM64 (aarch64) architectures. Oracle Linux 10 offers unlimited free access to a yum repository with binary updates for packages addressing bugs (errata) and security issues. Separate repositories are available for Application Stream and CodeReady Builder packages, as well as a repository for UEK-next kernels.
In addition to the kernel package from RHEL (based on kernel 6.11), Oracle Linux provides its own Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Next (UEK-Next), based on Linux kernel 6.12 and optimized for use with Oracle software and hardware. The kernel source code, including the breakdown into individual patches, is available in a public Git repository from Oracle. The Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel is installed by default, positioned as an alternative to the standard RHEL kernel package, offering a range of advanced features such as DTrace integration, improved Btrfs support, and optimizations for Oracle products. Besides the additional kernel, the preview releases of Oracle Linux 10 and RHEL 10 are fully identical in functionality.
