The developers of the Linux Mint distribution have announced the start of work on adapting the Cinnamon desktop environment for Wayland. Experimental support for Wayland will appear in the upcoming Cinnamon 6.0 release, which will be included in Linux Mint 21.3 (based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS + fresh software versions from Ubuntu 23.10). The release of Linux Mint 21.3 is scheduled for December.

According to plan, the developers of Linux Mint aim to refine Cinnamon on Wayland until the release of Linux Mint 23, which will be based on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (which, in turn, will be released in April 2026).
