Volker Hilsheimer has been appointed as the Chief Maintainer of the Qt project, taking over from Lars Knoll, who has held the position for the last 11 years and announced his departure from Qt Company last month. The leader's candidacy was approved through a general vote of maintainers. With a margin of 24 votes to 18, Hilsheimer outpaced Allan Sandfeld, who was also nominated for the leadership position.
Volker has been developing on Qt since the late 1990s and currently holds the position of Director at Qt Company, overseeing research and development (R&D), graphics, and user interface matters. Lars Knoll describes Hilsheimer as someone who knows all the technical details, has connections within Qt Company, is respected among developers, and is a proponent of Qt's evolution as an open project.
