A new version of NethSecurity, the open-source firewall based on Linux, has been released. It features improved stability, an updated administrator management interface, and connection tracking.
The NethSecurity project, which is a rework of OpenWrt and the successor to NethServer 7, has launched version 8.1 just one month after the previous major release 8.0. This firewall is designed to simplify network security deployment through an easy installation process and a user-friendly web interface for ensuring reliable network protection.
Key innovations:
- Connection Manager now provides an interface for tracking active network connections.
- Administrator Management has been enhanced and is now available directly from the user interface, simplifying the management of administrative users.
- MultiWAN functionality has been improved, including a 'sticky' option for greater connection resilience.
- Authentication via remote LDAP database has been enhanced, offering greater flexibility for Active Directory and other LDAP configurations.
- Updated DPI signatures are available for both community and enterprise users.
- A new subscription authentication proxy allows access to subscription repository channels after verifying system_key.
Additionally, version 8.1 addresses numerous bugs to enhance system stability. Issues related to space usage on NVME drives, DHCP server reliability after migration, and various MultiWAN policy display problems have been resolved.
Future updates are planned to further develop these improvements. There are also plans to introduce new features, such as firewall objects and enhanced reporting. Developers will consider user feedback for the ongoing development of the project.
