TP Vision, the company behind Philips televisions, has announced that all devices for 2026 will be built on the Titan OS software platform. JVC has also reported the use of Titan OS in some of its televisions. This platform reportedly allows the manufacturer to participate in development and have greater control over the appearance and features of the software. Devices running Titan OS will receive security updates for up to 10 years.
More than a year ago, TP Vision first announced the transition of its budget televisions to the Titan OS platform, and now all of the company's televisions, including models with OLED screens, will operate using this alternative operating system.
Titan OS is a European operating system for televisions based on Linux. It is essentially a web platform, so users will not need to download an app to start watching. This approach frees up the television's memory, which can potentially lead to improved performance.
Currently, Titan OS supports most popular streaming services such as Netflix, YouTube, Disney Plus, HBO Max, and Prime Video. The Apple TV service is expected to launch on the platform in spring 2026, along with other planned additions like Spotify and SkyShowtime. Titan OS is also compatible with Apple TV Play 2, Google Assistant, and works with Alexa and Control 4 devices. As of now, the platform does not support Google Cast. The manufacturer has not provided information regarding support for Gemini.
Among the main advantages of using Titan OS, analysts cite the ability for the manufacturer to participate in development, have greater control over the platform's appearance and features, as well as explore "new revenue sources." Experts hope that the quoted phrase does not imply more advertising, tracking, and other unwanted additions.
