NVIDIA Shield TV was one of the first media set-top boxes for TVs based on Android, which appeared on the market, and remains one of the best. NVIDIA continues to release regular updates for the device, and it appears another one is in the works, and it won't be just another firmware update.
The Shield TV is powered by the Tegra X1 SoC, the same processor used in the Nintendo Switch, and allows you to seamlessly play any game from the Google Play Store. If that's not enough, the console supports streaming video games from your computer using GameStream (requiring GeForce Experience). And if you don't have a powerful computer, NVIDIA Now technology lets you run a range of AAA titles from the NVIDIA cloud, with all the processing done remotely. XDA Developers is reporting that the latest firmware for the Shield contains references to a "Stormcaster" gamepad and remote control called "Friday", which could potentially replace the current input devices available for the Shield TV.
The last time the set-top box received an update to its hardware was in 2017 and at the moment there are no rumors about the preparation of a new model, at the same time, controllers for Shield TV have never been updated since the release of the first revision of the set-top box in 2015.

An NVIDIA spokesperson issued a statement to XDA Developers: “It is fairly standard practice for various concept codenames to appear in production files. These references remain even when it becomes unlikely that the concept will ever enter production."
Thus, at the moment, an update for the Shield TV is nothing more than a fan's dream, but if the company does release new controllers or updates the set-top box itself, this will undoubtedly serve as another good reason to purchase it.
