Along with the release of a new driver package for its graphics cards (GeForce 419.67), NVIDIA also announced an expansion in the ranks of G-Sync Compatible monitors. Additionally, the manufacturer has added new features for G-Sync compatible monitors.
The list of G-Sync Compatible monitors is now joined by two models from ASUS. The ASUS VG278QR and VG258 displays are relatively budget gaming monitors with Full HD resolution (1920 × 1080 pixels) and refresh rates of 165 and 144 Hz respectively.
Furthermore, G-Sync synchronization can now be activated not only on one monitor but also on three monitors connected to the system in NVIDIA Surround, provided they belong to the G-Sync Compatible category. However, NVIDIA has implemented a number of restrictions. Firstly, the ability to use G-Sync across multiple monitors will only be available to owners of Turing GPU graphics cards. Secondly, all monitors must be connected via DisplayPort ports. And importantly, they must be the same monitors, meaning not just from the same manufacturer, but of the same model.
It is worth noting that G-Sync Compatible refers to monitors with adaptive frame synchronization technology (Adaptive-Sync or AMD FreeSync) that have been tested by NVIDIA for compliance with the standards of its own G-Sync synchronization technology. In other words, on these FreeSync monitors, NVIDIA guarantees full compatibility with its G-Sync technology through drivers. At the time of launching the G-Sync Compatible initiative, NVIDIA selected only 12 models, but the list has now grown to 17 monitors.
