Three years after being announced at CES 2017 and two years of beta testing on PC, NVIDIA's cloud gaming service GeForce Now has officially launched. The GeForce Now offering looks significantly more appealing compared to what Google Stadia offers its users in terms of game streaming. At least, on paper.
You can interact with GeForce Now for free, as well as through a subscription for $4.99 per month. Although Google Stadia eventually began to offer a 'free' interaction with its service, this is only available to those who purchased the $129 Stadia Founders Edition kit and paid an additional $10 for a Stadia Pro subscription.
The GeForce Now cloud gaming service allows you to play any games without the need for a powerful PC. NVIDIA's service does not sell games but allows you to connect to pre-existing user libraries from platforms like Steam, Epic Game Store, Uplay, and others. Simply put, users will be able to play games they have already purchased. This means that the free interaction scheme with the service can be genuinely free. Moreover, GeForce Now supports a wide range of popular online games like Fortnite, League of Legends, Dota 2, Apex Legends, Warframe, and many more.
GeForce Now officially supports around 400 games, which can be found through its internal search system. The library of supported games is regularly updated with the most in-demand projects. Additionally, GeForce Now allows interaction with hundreds of games that have not been optimized for the service and are not permanently stored on servers NVIDIA. Access to them is provided in a 'single-session' mode, meaning users will need to install the game each time they launch the service.
To interact with GeForce Now, NVIDIA offers clients for Windows, macOS, smartphones, and Android-based TVs. In the future, the service will become available to Chromebook users.
Unfortunately, the global version of GeForce Now currently does not affect Russian users, who are offered by NVIDIA to use the localized cloud gaming service GFN.RU, developed by one of its partners. GFN.RU pricing is based on its own principles, and the previous subscription conditions (999 rubles per month) remain unchanged.
