It seems that autumn is an unfortunate time for Windows 10 developers. It is hard to explain the fact that almost a year ago in build 1809, a whole bunch of problems surfaced, even after the re-release. This includes issues with old AMD graphics cards, search in Windows Media, and even in iCloud. But this year, the situation seems to be even more interesting.
A few days ago, cumulative update KB4515384 was released. It fixed of screenshots and excessive CPU load caused by the Cortana voice assistant, but brought even more problems.
As it turns out, the update causes sound issues. If there are third-party sound cards on the computer, there may be instances of reduced sound quality. To resolve the issue, it is recommended to change the sound quality to 16-bit and disable virtual multi-channel sound systems. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue but has not fixed it yet. It may occur by the end of the month. But that's not all.
It turned out that KB4515384 also causes failures in the Start menu and Windows 10 search system. In Redmond, they are already of the problem, but there is no comment on the matter yet. Reports indicate that the Start menu is not working and the system is displaying a critical error. Windows Search shows a blank screen for any search query. But it doesn't end there.
In addition to this, KB4515384affects Ethernet and Wi-Fi adapters on some PCs, and reinstalling drivers does not help. In this case, the only remedy may be the removal of the update.
And for the final note — KB4515384 additionally increases CPU load, sometimes prevents the Support Center and classic Microsoft Edge from launching. It can also lead to when working with external USB devices: with mice, keyboards, and other peripherals.
It seems that this cumulative patch contains the maximum amount of bugs or simply was not tested and was released immediately. We can only wait for the release of a fix.
