The release of the free document layout package Scribus 1.6.3 has been announced. This package provides tools for professional layout of printed materials, including tools for generating PDFs and supporting work with separate color profiles, CMYK, spot colors, and ICC. The program is written using the Qt toolkit and is released under the GPLv2+ license. Ready binary builds are available for Linux (AppImage), macOS, and Windows.
The new version enhances the import of images with the CMYK color model. New features for automation scripts have been introduced for converting measurement units and styling text. Improvements have been made to the image export quality settings. Issues in the graphical interface have been resolved, along with problems related to opening and generating PDFs, shortcuts, detecting external drives, updating images, and reverting changes. Support has been added for building with the new versions of the poppler library.
An experimental branch of Scribus 1.7 is also being developed, which includes a port to Qt 6, icons have been translated to the SVG format, a new palette implementation has been added, and a new system of dockable panels has been proposed.
