The release of the free document layout package Scribus 1.6.4 has been announced. The package provides tools for professional print layout, includes PDF generation tools, and supports working with separate color profiles, CMYK, spot colors, and ICC. The program is written using the Qt toolkit and is distributed under the GPLv2+ license. Ready binary builds are available for Linux (AppImage), macOS, and Windows.
In the new version, user font embedding in PDFs has been disabled. New Python functions have been implemented for scripts to determine page sizes, page element boundaries, minimum and maximum spacing between words, and locked layers. Issues with PDF import and export have been resolved. Compilation problems when using new versions of the Poppler library have been fixed.
At the same time, the development of the experimental branch Scribus 1.7 is underway, which has ported to Qt 6, added support for dark themes, converted icons to SVG format, implemented a new docking panel system, and reworked the color picker.
