David Heinemeier Hansson, the creator of the Ruby on Rails web framework, has announced the establishment of the Omacom Foundation, a nonprofit organization that will ensure the long-term maintenance of the Omarchy Linux distribution and its related infrastructure. The organization will also manage the trademarks, provide funding, and support open projects and developers that the distribution relies on.
The organization's initial budget of 8 million dollars has been formed through contributions from 8 founding members, each of whom donated 1 million dollars to the project. The founders include Michael Dell (founder of Dell), Toby Lutke (CEO of Shopify), Patrick Collison (CEO of Stripe), Matthew Prince (CEO of Cloudflare), David Heinemeier Hansson (creator of the Omarchy distribution), Jack Dorsey (CEO of Block), Brendan Iribe (co-founder of Oculus), and Jason Fried (CEO of 37signals).
