On May 19, the 60th anniversary release of the OpenBSD operating system was quietly launched.
Among the changes:
- enhanced support for architectures arm64, luna88k, riscv64, and others;
- fixed the FP-DSS vulnerability on amd64;
- the sysctl hw.smt mechanism has been deprecated, replaced by hw.blockcpu to exclude certain types of cores from the scheduler (useful for Intel processors);
- implemented a delayed hibernation mechanism, known in systemd as suspend-then-hibernate;
- improvements in SMP;
- the DRM component from the Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.18.22;
- many bugs in the VMM/VMD virtualization subsystem have been fixed;
- a multitude of improvements in user space programs, for instance, login is now able to set the XDG_RUNTIME_DIR environment variable required for Wayland compositors;
- enhanced support for network devices, particularly:
- added support for a 160 MHz channel width in the 5 GHz band in the iwx driver;
- added basic support for 802.11ax (WiFi 6);
- improvements in the pledge and unveil subsystems;
- IPv6 autoconf (DHCP) is enabled by default in the installer;
- LibreSSL version 4.3.0;
- OpenSSH version 10.3;
- and much more, which can be explored independently.
For the amd64 platform, 13,044 binary packages have been prepared, including Chromium 147, Firefox 150, GCC 15.2.0, LLVM/Clang 19.1.7 and 20.1.8, GNOME 49, KDE Plasma 6.6.4, Wayland compositors Niri, Mango, LabWC, Sway, Wayfire.
For the first time after a break, an official song, however, the Russian-speaking community has prepared an unofficial song.
