OpenBSD has discontinued support for the Loongson hardware platform due to a regression in Clang.

Support for the Loongson platform, added in 2010 for MIPS-compatible Chinese processors Loongson 2E and 2F, has been removed from OpenBSD. The reason for the removal is noted as build issues for the mips64el platform in new versions of the Clang compiler. After attempting to self-build clang 22 (building clang 22 code using the clang 22 compiler), crashes occurred that did not happen when building clang 22 with clang 19.

The developer who maintained the Loongson platform noted that he lacks the time and resources to investigate the reasons for the regression, especially considering that the self-build cycle for clang on a computer with a Loongson CPU takes 10 days. The regression is likely related to byte order processing, as the issue does not appear on the MIPS platform Octeon (Loongson is Little-Endian, Octeon is Big-Endian). The option to revert to using GCC 4 was dismissed due to many ports requiring a compiler that supports the C++ 11 standard.
