Additionally, it can be noted Illumos distribution , which is classified as a long-term support (LTS) release, with updates created for three years. This is the first LTS release after of the project in 2017 and the establishment of the non-profit OmniOS CE Association, which took control of OmniOS development. Support for running an independent illumos distribution in a zone using a common kernel with OmniOS has been added. Dynamic management of network settings and virtual network adapters through the built-in zone configuration system has been ensured. When creating isolated zones, the parameters 'brand=lipkg' and 'ip-type=exclusive' are now set by default. Support for specifying zone-specific ipf packet filter rules has been introduced. Memory consumption for zones has been reduced by disabling unnecessary services.
- In ZFS, the ability to import pools using a temporary name has been added. Support for dnode with variable size has been introduced.
- The pkg package manager now includes the ability to verify the compliance of installed files with the files in the package using the command 'pkg verify'. For example, if the ownership of the directory /var is accidentally changed, the command 'pkg verify -p /var' will warn that the owner should be root. The ability to enable and disable package publishers at the level of individual repositories has been added. For object integrity control, the SHA-2 hash has been used instead of SHA-1.
- Automatically generated names for boot environments can now be based on the current date and time or the date of the update release (for example, 'pkg set-property auto-be-name time:omnios-%Y.%m.%d').
- Support for new AMD and Intel chips has been added. USB 3.1 support has been improved. Paravirtual drivers for Hyper-V/Azure (package driver/hyperv/pv) have been added. A new bnx (Broadcom NetXtreme) driver has been introduced.
