Today, Friday, October 13, the major release OpenWRT 23.05.0 was launched.
OpenWRT is a Linux-based operating system designed for installation on network routers, currently supporting over 1790 devices.
What's New
The main features of this release, compared to version 22.03, are:
- added support for around 200 new devices;
- improved functionality for many existing devices:
- continued transition from swconfig to DSA;
- support for devices with 2.5G PHY;
- support for Wifi 6E (6GHz);
- support for 2 Gbps LAN/WAN routing on ramips MT7621 devices;
- switch from wolfssl to mbedtls by default;
- support for applications in Rust;
- updates to system components, including the transition to kernel 5.15.134 for all devices.
Upgrade Process
Upgrading from 22.03 to 23.05 should proceed smoothly while preserving settings.
Upgrading from 21.02 to 23.05 is officially not supported.
Known Issues
- The target build for lantiq/xrx200 does not compile, as the DSA driver for the integrated switch GSWIP has bugs.
- bcm53xx: Netgear R8000 and Linksys EA9200 Ethernet is broken.
