Fedora Asahi Remix 43 has been released, designed for installation on Mac computers equipped with ARM chips developed by Apple. Fedora Asahi Remix 43 is based on the package base of Fedora Linux 43 and features the Calamares installer. Initially, the Asahi Linux distribution was developed based on Arch Linux, but in 2023 it was transitioned to the Fedora package base, allowing efforts to focus on reverse engineering and hardware support, while the creation of the installable distribution was handed over to the Fedora Asahi SIG working group.
Fedora Asahi Remix enables operation on Apple Mac systems equipped with Apple Silicon ARM chips — M1, M2, M3, and M4, used in Mac Mini, MacBook Air, and Mac Pro devices. Devices with M1 and M2 chips fully support: the audio subsystem of Apple computers, camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, input devices, USB Type C (USB 3.0), and MagSafe wireless charging. Currently not supported: video output through USB-C, Thunderbolt/USB4, microphone, and Touch ID.
KDE Plasma 6.6 is provided as the main user environment, but an edition with GNOME 49 is also optionally available, as well as a minimalistic build. In the KDE and GNOME editions, Wayland is used, and the X11 applications are run using the XWayland DDX server.
