The DB-Engines publication has updated the popularity ranking of database management systems, tracking the popularity of 423 systems. The methodology for calculating the ranking is similar to the TIOBE programming language ranking and considers the popularity of queries in search engines, the number of results in search outputs, the volume of discussions on popular forums and social media, the number of job vacancies in recruitment agencies, and mentions in user profiles.
The largest increase in popularity was recorded for the cloud database Snowflake (+27.98), which rose from 9th to 6th place in a year. A significant rise in popularity was also noted for PostgreSQL (+14.45) and Oracle (+11.27). The most notable decrease in interest was observed in MySQL (-125.31), Microsoft SQL Server (-78.05), Microsoft Access (-24.97), MongoDB (-14.98), MariaDB (-13.65), and Apache Cassandra (-11.84).
Regarding the distribution of databases in the ranking, the top five positions continue to be held by Oracle, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB. Compared to January 2024, Snowflake (9 β 6), SQLite (11 β 10), Apache Cassandra (12 β 11), Databricks (17 β 13), Neo4j (22 β 20), ClickHouse (37 β 30), Apache Spark (36 β 31), and OpenSearch (42 β 33) have improved their positions in the database ranking.
The positions of Redis (6 β 7), Elasticsearch (7 β 8), IBM Db2 (8 β 9), Microsoft Access (10 β 12), Firebird (29 β 32), Couchbase (33 β 35), and Prometheus (50 β 52) have fallen.
