Linux From Scratch 9.0 and Beyond Linux From Scratch 9.0 have been released

New releases of guides Linux From Scratch 9.0 (LFS) and Beyond Linux From Scratch 9.0 (BLFS), as well as the LFS and BLFS editions with the system manager systemd. Linux From Scratch provides instructions on building a basic Linux system from scratch, using only the source texts of the required software. Beyond Linux From Scratch supplements the LFS instructions with information on assembling and configuring around 1000 software packages, covering various application areas, from databases and server systems to graphical shells and media players.

In Linux From Scratch 9.0 the transition to Glibc 2.30 and GCC 9.2.0 has been made. 33 packages have been updated, including the Linux kernel 5.2, Coreutils 8.31, Eudev 3.2.8, GRUB 2.04, IPRoute2 5.2.0, Meso 0.51.1, OpenSSL 1.1.1c, Perl 5.30.0, Python 3.7.4, Shadow 4.7, SysVinit 2.95, Util-Linux 2.34 and Vim 8.1.184. Errors in the boot scripts have been fixed, and editorial work has been done on the explanatory materials throughout the book.
In Beyond Linux From Scratch 9.0, installation instructions for the GNOME desktop have been added compared to the previous release (only KDE, Xfce, and LXDE were previously supported), made possible by including the necessary components for GNOME operation within the LFS environment based on the sysvinit initialization system, which are not tied to systemd.

About 850 programs have been updated, including GNOME 3.30, KDE Plasma 5.16.4, KDE Applications 19.08, GNOME 3.32.0, Xfce 4.14, LibreOffice 6.3, Cups 2.2.12,
FFmpeg 4.2, VLC 3.0.8, GIMP 2.10.12, Thunderbird 68, etc.
