Nate Graham, a developer focused on quality control in the KDE project, has published another development report for KDE. The most notable changes included in KDE Plasma 6.2.0 are:
- The screen brightness control widget has been updated to include sliders for adjusting the brightness on each connected monitor separately. For synchronized brightness adjustment across all monitors, you can use a hotkey or scroll the mouse wheel over the widget.
- The shutdown screen and the Discover application manager now include a button labeled 'Install Updates & Shut Down' for installing accumulated offline updates and shutting down. This function first restarts the computer and performs offline updates during boot, then shuts down the system after the updates have been installed.
- When using alternative power profiles, special icons are now displayed on the power indicator in the system tray, allowing users to see not only the battery charge status but also the selected power profile.
- Pop-up windows invoked from the panel are now aligned to the edge of the panel whenever possible.
- There is now an option to assign a display name for shortcuts that execute arbitrary commands.
- The Discover application manager has revamped the presentation of license information and provided a clear distinction between free and proprietary software, rather than labeling all non-free software as proprietary.
- The interface of the sidebar for adding widgets has been redesigned. When opened from the panel attached to the right side of the screen, the widget panel now also appears on the right. The size of text cells has been increased, and sorting now takes locale into account. The ability to insert separators has been added without needing to access the panel settings.
- The keyboard layout indicator has been modified to prevent the size of letters in the selected language labels from changing when switching layouts.
- The panel can now be switched to edit mode by doing a long touch on the touchscreen in the panel area.
- The Okular document viewer has added a text-to-speech function that reads text aloud starting from the current page using a speech synthesizer.
- In the compositor server KWin has improved the process of converting high dynamic range (HDR) images to low dynamic range formats (HDR tone mapping), allowing for more accurate color representation in situations where HDR content has brightness levels exceeding what the monitor can display.
- The performance impact of using ICC profiles for color calibration on the screen has been reduced in KWin.
- KWin's performance has been enhanced on some systems with multiple GPUs.
- Tests have been added to check for X11 specific behavior in KWin (noting that over 80% of KDE Plasma 6 users are using Wayland).
- A crash issue in the KWin compositing manager caused by certain manipulations of X11 applications, including those using XWayland, related to window placement order has been fixed.
- A bug that caused issues when adding text to the clipboard from cells in LibreOffice Calc has been resolved.
