The company "Open Mobile Platform" has introduced a toolkit that allows the use of the KMP (Kotlin Multiplatform) technology in the Aurora OS. KMP enables the creation of cross-platform code in Kotlin by isolating shared business logic into a library adapted for the Aurora, Android, iOS, Web, or Linux platforms.
In Aurora OS, as in iOS, there is no JVM, but thanks to the support for native compilation in Kotlin (Kotlin/Native), KMP code can be compiled into a static or dynamic library that can be ported to any systems that support C libraries. However, using low-level C libraries generated by KMP can be inconvenient directly. In Aurora OS, this issue is resolved with the help of the QtBinding plugin, which creates a layer between low-level C and Qt. Hence, writing applications for Aurora OS has become no more complicated than for iOS.
The toolkit is still in its early development stage and needs further simplification and optimization. Nevertheless, even the current state of the project allows for the reuse of existing Kotlin code in Aurora OS. The toolkit's code is open under the BSD license, and contributions, feedback, and suggestions for improvements are welcome.
