The Computer History Museum has received permission from Adobe to publish the source code of one of the first implementations of the PostScript printing technology, released in 1984. The PostScript technology is notable for describing the printed page in a special programming language, and the PostScript document serves as a program interpreted during printing.
The published code is written in C and is now available for download (zip archive) under the CHM Software License Agreement. The implementation includes, among other things, the font hinting code that formed the basis of the algorithm ensuring high-quality font rendering at different resolutions, which was a commercial secret of Adobe until it was revealed in 2010.
