The Landrun project develops a non-privileged application isolation system.

Posted on

The Landrun project has started developing a new system for isolated execution of individual applications. For isolation, the Landlock LSM module of the Linux kernel is used, allowing the creation of a sandbox environment without performing privileged operations. In its tasks, Landrun is similar to the Firejail utility, but distinguishes itself with a simpler implementation, lightweight nature, and the ability to operate under a regular unprivileged user without being supplied with the suid flag. Code […]

NixOS has proposed a method for protecting against the insertion of backdoors, such as those in XZ.

Posted on

A repeatable builds mode has been proposed for inclusion in the nixpkgs package repository used in the NixOS distribution, allowing the identification of cases where backdoors have been injected into the code, reminiscent of the incident with the XZ project. The presented protection method enables the detection of modifications in the release source code archives that are absent in the code repositories. The essence of the method is that the source code of the new version of the application is built twice […]

Release of Wayland Maker 0.5, a composite server in the style of Window Maker

Posted on

The release of the composite server Wayland Maker 0.5 has become available, implementing a user environment styled after Window Maker, built using the Wayland protocol. The project's code is written in C and is distributed under the Apache 2.0 license. Since 2023, the project has been developed by a Google employee who is also working on the minimalist standard C library libbase. Supported features include window stacking layout mode, use of virtual desktops […]

Vulnerabilities in Pagure and OBS that allowed for package compromises in Fedora and openSUSE repositories

Posted on

Security researchers from Fenrisk have revealed vulnerabilities in the Pagure and OBS (Open Build Service) tools that allowed compromising the package build infrastructures of the Fedora and openSUSE distributions. The researchers demonstrated the possibility of executing arbitrary code attacks on servers with Pagure and OBS, which could be used to modify packages in the Fedora and openSUSE repositories. […]
