A vulnerability (CVE-2024-53677) has been identified in the Apache Struts web framework used for creating web applications in Java with the MVC (Model-View-Controller) paradigm. The vulnerability allows an external attacker to write a file to any location on the server's file system by sending a specially crafted HTTP request. The issue affects releases from 2.0.0 to 2.3.37, from 2.5.0 to 2.5.33, and from 6.0.0 to 6.3.0.2, and […]

After seven years of development, the release of the command-line tool sq 1.0 has been finalized, designed for working with OpenPGP artifacts. The tool was prepared by the Sequoia PGP project, which is also developing the function library implementing the OpenPGP standard (RFC-4880). Release 1.0 is noted as the first stable release of the project, signaling the stabilization of the codebase and the cessation of changes that would break compatibility. The code is written in Rust and […]
The composite server Hyprland 0.46 has been introduced, utilizing the Wayland protocol. The project is focused on tiled window layouts but also supports traditional free-form window placement, grouping windows in tab form, pseudo-tile mode, and full-screen window expansions. It provides opportunities for creating visually appealing interfaces: gradients in window frames, background blurring, animation effects, and shadows. Functionality can be extended by connecting […]
After two years of development, the release of the Xfce 4.20 desktop environment has been presented, offering a classic desktop designed to consume minimal system resources whenever possible. Xfce consists of several interconnected components that can be used in other projects if desired. Among these components are: the window manager xfwm4, an application launcher panel, a user session management tool, a power management system, a graphical configurator, a file manager […]

An update has been accepted in the Linux 6.13-rc3 kernel that fixes a performance regression in the KVM hypervisor related to slow processing of CPUID calls on new CPUs. For example, on Intel Emerald Rapids CPUs, CPUID operations are performed 3-4 times slower than on Intel Skylake CPUs. This issue has led to reduced KVM hypervisor performance, which uses CPUID during the save process […]
Mozilla has updated the Common Voice voice data sets, which include pronunciation samples from over 200,000 people. The data is published as public domain (CC0). The suggested sets can be used in machine learning systems to build speech recognition and synthesis models. Compared to the last update, the volume of speech material in the collection has increased from 32.6 to 33.1 thousand hours of speech, from […]
A set of patches implementing a cyclic balancing policy for read operations in RAID1, using a 'Round-robin' algorithm, has been accepted into the repository developing changes in Btrfs for future Linux kernel branches. To enable the distribution of read operations in a circular cycle, set the value 'round-robin:[min_contiguous_read]' in 'sys/fs/btrfs//read_policy', where the optional parameter 'min_contiguous_read' defines the minimum size of requests to be balanced between mirrors (by default […]
