The CERT coordination center (computer emergency response team) has issued a warning about a series of vulnerabilities in implementations of various application protocols that use UDP as transport. The vulnerabilities can be exploited to cause denial of service due to the potential looping of packet exchanges between two hosts. For instance, attackers may exhaust the available bandwidth, blocking the operation of network services (for example, […]
Those who are just beginning to explore generative models for image creation typically focus on refining text prompts and selecting checkpoints. Experienced enthusiasts, however, pay more attention to additional tools for enhancing the expressiveness of AI-generated images, among which ControlNet is arguably one of the most powerful sources: 3dnews.ru
Firefox 124 is now available. The setting "Always use arrow keys to navigate pages" now works in the PDF viewer. Firefox View has introduced the ability to choose the sorting order of the open tabs list: by recent activity or by tab order. Microsoft has opened the source code of the Garnet NoSQL system, designed to create caching storage that is compatible with existing client libraries for Redis storage. Garnet supports the creation of scalable clusters for data caching, which can utilize replication, key migration, and data segmentation among cluster nodes. The project is written in C# with a core storage engine built in C++, and is open under the license […]
Kiddy is a module for the Linux kernel developed to reduce the risks of exploiting (some) kernel vulnerabilities. The protection mechanism implemented in this module is based on a simple idea, which is that during an attack, the target object is identified in some way. Therefore, by complicating such identification, the difficulty of exploitation can be significantly increased, as in many cases […]
The release of the TileOS 1.0 'T-Rex' distribution, built on the Debian package base and offering a desktop that utilizes mosaic window managers, is now available. TileOS aims for the same goals as the Ubuntu Sway Remix distribution (developed by the same author), providing a ready-to-use interface that requires no additional configuration and is geared towards both experienced Linux users and newcomers wishing […]
A vulnerability (CVE-2024-1753) has been identified in the Buildah and Podman packages, which allows full access to the host filesystem during the build stage of a container running with root privileges. On systems with SELinux enabled, access to the host filesystem is limited to read-only mode. A fix is currently available in the form of a patch that was just accepted into the Buildah codebase. The vulnerability is caused by […]
A serious bug in the logic of the Bcachefs file system has been discovered in the Linux kernel 6.7, manifesting in configurations with multiple storage devices when using new versions of the file system creation tools. The issue occurs when it’s possible to create a scenario where the file system attempts to update its version, which does not complete, after which the kernel may try to make the file system version more […]
The Raspberry Pi project developers have released updated builds of the Raspberry Pi OS 2024-03-15 (Raspbian), based on the Debian 12 package base. For Raspberry Pi 4/5 boards, the Wayfire composite manager based on the Wayland protocol is used by default, while for other boards, the X server with the Openbox window manager is employed. Pipewire multimedia server is used for sound management. About […] is available in the repository.
