The Jellyfin project 1.12 has been released, enabling the deployment of a multimedia streaming system on your own server to broadcast existing content to users' devices. The project was founded in 2018 as a fork of the Emby media server, continuing the development of the open-source codebase after Emby transitioned to a proprietary development model. The Jellyfin code is written in C# using the .NET platform and is distributed under the license.
Baptiste Daroussin, a member of the FreeBSD Core Team and author of the pkg package manager, is developing a new system manager for FreeBSD — rcd. The rcd system manager is invoked by the init process instead of /etc/rc, reads configuration files for services (/etc/rcd.d/*.ucl), builds a dependency tree, and starts services as much as possible in parallel with each other, after which it monitors the operation of services and restarts them if necessary.
Arnd Bergmann, responsible for kernel packages in SUSE, has prepared patches that remove about 55,000 lines of code related to deprecated ARM platforms, which are rarely used and complicate the maintenance of current subsystems. The platforms slated for removal include sa1100, omap24xx, i.MX31, samv7, lpc18xx, riscpc, axxia, footbridge, older pxa boards, orion, dove, and mv78xx0.
The X11 server yserver 1.5.0 has been released, written from scratch in Rust and supporting current extensions of the X11 protocol. The project does not aim to replicate all the capabilities of the Xorg Server and is limited to only the functionality necessary for running modern desktop environments, window managers, applications, and graphics libraries (GTK, Qt, SDL, GLFW). Tested environments include MATE, Xfce.
The open project AxonOS has been introduced, developing a software infrastructure for systems with neuro-computer interfaces, intended to create a deterministic execution layer between neural hardware and AI.
