New version of the embedded JavaScript engine from the founder of QEMU and FFmpeg

French mathematician Fabrice Bellard, who founded the QEMU and FFmpeg projects, has published an update for his compact embedded JavaScript engine, QuickJS. The engine supports the ES2019 specification and additional mathematical extensions such as BigInt and BigFloat types. In terms of performance, QuickJS significantly outperforms existing alternatives (35% better than XS, over twice as fast as DukTape, and three times faster than JerryScript).

GameMode 1.5 is available, a game performance optimizer for Linux

Feral Interactive has released version 1.5 of the GameMode optimizer, implemented as a background process that dynamically changes various Linux system settings to achieve maximum performance for gaming applications. The project’s code is written in C and is distributed under the BSD license. A special library, libgamemode, is provided for games, allowing specific optimizations to be enabled during gameplay.

Release of GhostBSD 20.01

The desktop-oriented distribution GhostBSD 20.01, based on the TrueOS platform, is now available, offering the MATE desktop environment. GhostBSD uses OpenRC as the default initialization system and ZFS as its file system. It supports both live mode operation and installation on a hard disk (utilizing its own ginstall installer written in Python). Bootable images are available for the x86_64 architecture (2.2 GB).
