SiFive has unveiled a plan for computers based on Linux and RISC-V using the SiFive FU740 SoC processor. This five-core processor consists of four SiFive U74 cores and one SiFive S7 core. The computer is aimed at developers and enthusiasts looking to build systems on the RISC-V architecture and is intended not as a final solution but as a foundation for something greater. The board will feature 8GB DDR4 RAM, 32GB QSPI flash, microSD, a console port for debugging, PCIe Gen 3 x8 for graphics, FPGA or other devices, M.2 for NVMe storage (PCIe Gen 3 x4), and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth (PCIe Gen 3 x1), along with four USB 3.2 Gen 1 type-A ports and Gigabit Ethernet. The price is expected to be $665, with availability in the fourth quarter of 2020.
