- Enhanced multimedia content management capabilities: support for integrating content such as video and web components into documents.
- Security profiles: standardizing capabilities for environments requiring a higher level of protection, such as governmental and healthcare systems. Expanding support for content encryption, digital signatures, and preventing confidential data leakage.
- Improvement of tools for people with disabilities: expanding support for tagged PDFs, ARIA roles (Accessible Rich Internet Applications), and semantic markup.
