Developers from SUSE have shared their initial plans for the development of a significant future branch of the SUSE Linux Enterprise distribution, which is presented under the codename ALP (Adaptable Linux Platform). This new branch aims to introduce some radical changes both in the distribution itself and in its development methodologies.
In particular, SUSE intends to move away from the model of preparing SUSE Linux behind closed doors in favor of an open development process. Previously, all development was carried out internally, and results were published once completed; now, the processes of creating and building the distribution will become public, allowing interested parties to track the ongoing work and participate in development.
