Firefox 115 is the last branch capable of running on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, as well as macOS 10.12, 10.13, and 10.14. The lifespan of the Firefox 115 branch may not be limited to September, as the release note mentions that the matter of further support extension will be considered in August.
According to February statistics from Mozilla, 7.8% of Firefox users continue to use Windows 7, despite Microsoft ceasing support for these operating systems in January 2020. Six months ago, this figure was 10.5%, a year and a half ago it was 13.7%, and two and a half years ago it was 19.1%. In Google Chrome, support for Windows 7 and Windows 8 ended in February 2023, making Firefox the only significant browser still supporting Windows 7/8.
Additionally, we can mention the corrective release of Firefox 135.0.1, which addresses a vulnerability (CVE-2025-1414) caused by memory handling issues. This vulnerability could potentially lead to the execution of malicious code when opening specially designed pages. The new version also fixes several non-security-related issues, such as dropdown menu malfunctions on certain websites, crashes while scrolling content, the inability to restore closed windows and tabs via the History menu after updating, and issues with manually added search engines.
