David Lieb, the lead developer of Google Photos, shared some details about the future of the popular service during a conversation with users on Twitter. Although the goal of the discussion was to gather feedback and suggestions, Mr. Lieb, in response to questions, talked about the new features that will be added to Google Photos.
It has been announced that users will soon be able to tag people in photos themselves. Currently, the service is capable of recognizing friends and acquaintances in images. Users can delete incorrect tags, but they cannot tag people in the photos manually.
Additionally, the mobile app for Google Photos will include a search feature for recently added photos. At the moment, search for recently uploaded images only functions in the web version of the service. The new feature will facilitate searching among recently uploaded photos, even if the desired photo was taken several years ago. Another feature being transferred from the web version to the app is the ability to edit timestamps.
In the future, users will receive a simplified feature that allows them to share photos of animals and pets. There will be an option to automatically add such photos to shared libraries. The development team plans to integrate a feature for deleting photos from one's library while viewing items displayed in shared galleries.
Unfortunately, Mr. Lieb did not specify when the new features might be available in Google Photos.
